Original work by early American artist Katharine Beecher Stetson. Acquired directly from the Chamberlin family estate. It measures approximately 18” tall and the base is 5” across. This stunning original wood carved sculpture is signed and dated by Katharine in the bottom. Born in Providence, RI, on March 23, 1885. Katherine was the daughter of feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman and artist Charles W. Stetson. She studied in Rome and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). She met artist and MacDowell Fellow Frank Tolles Chamberlin at MacDowell, and they would marry in 1918.
